1893 Chicago World’s Fair Monoprints

In an ongoing process, some of my monoprints are done using prints inherited from my father.  These prints from George Barrie’s catalogue from the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair provide a substrate (the underlying paper layer) and an opportunity for me to respond to the line, color, shape, rhythm, gesture, content, or mood of the 1893 original print. I begin with immediate complexity and then add my own layering of ink, color and design. You will see that I have begun to leave the original, weathered paper frame as part of the entire image.
